Why I Write for Young Adults

I never
consciously set out to write books for young adults. As a kid, I didn’t want to
be a writer at all—I wanted to be a veterinarian, until my SAT math score of 410
ruled that option out. After this crushing blow, I decided to become an actress,
until I realized play rehearsals were held during prime time, and I kept missing
Cheers.
I eventually decided it would be fun to be a romance
novelist, like Barbara Cartland, whose books I was familiar with because my
