My grandmother. She is the teller of stories. And being unable to read or write in any language, she has elevated story-telling to an art form. To me has fallen the lesser task of scribbling it all down before I forget. For my memory is faltering and inconstant compared to hers, and I often blur the line between imagination and reality. Her name is Yianna, a female version of the masculine Yianni. It is no accident that I have named the character based on her Yiali, a name that has no equivalent, a name that challenges and shatters the old associations. Like glass.
