Reader Reviews from First Look
Michael Gruber The Book of Air and Shadows
God, I enjoyed this book.
The twisted narrative and chameleon characters kept me constantly in the dark; the change, or should I say, sleight of hand, of the narrator jolts the reader from one plot to another, and maintains the pace. I only wish I was a film buff and could fully grasp the underlay of cinematic references throughout the novel. The cast and plot are simply excellent.
A book you need to read at least twice to fully appreciate the nuances of dialogue and action. Well done Mr Gruber!

Get set for an extremely complex, page-turning thriller - with not just one secret to unravel...but several. The Book of Air and Shadows takes the reader on a dangerous hunt for the long-lost authograph manuscript of Shakespeares last play, and let me say it is definitely a hunt! Michael Gruber has written an exceptional story-line, not only is the goal of optaining the manuscript the key to the plot - it is also the three main characters and the obstacles they face that keep the book lively and entertaining. Gruber really brings the characters to life as they are wonderfully dimensional. It is a well-researched and thought-provoking read - what if a lost manuscript was really hidden?
I loved reading about the lives of book collectors, intellectual property lawyers and the strange world of literary academia. If you need a trill but also a remarkable, all consuming read - then this book will really take you on an adventure and maybe you might find the lost manuscript - trust me though, it is not easy!
I will be recommending it to my bookclub.
