Southern belle BeBe Loudermilk has lost all her worldly possessions, thanks to a brief but disastrous relationship with the gorgeous Reddy, an "investment counselor" who turns out to be a con man. All that's left is a ramshackle 1950s motel on Tybee Island—an eccentric beach town that calls itself a drinking village with a fishing problem.
Breeze Inn is a place where the very classy BeBe wouldn't normally be caught dead, but with no alternative, she moves into the manager's unit, vowing to make magic out of mud. The work is grueling, especially dealing with the bad-tempered caretaker, a fishing captain named Harry who's trying to earn enough dough to get his boat out of hock. With the help of Harry and her junking friend Weezie, BeBe soon has the motel spiffed up and attracting paying guests.
Then there's a sighting of Reddy in Fort Lauderdale, and BeBe decides to go after him. She puts together a posse, and with the irrepressible Granddaddy Loudermilk snoring in the backseat of the Buick, heads south. The plan is to carry out a sting that may be just a little bit outside the law but that, with any luck at all, will retrieve BeBe's fortune and put the dastardly Reddy in jail, where he belongs. And maybe Harry, who's looking more hunky every day, will finally get his boat back.

I grew up in Savannah and loved reading about the protagonist's work renovating the seedy old motor lodge, the Breeze Inn. And I have quite a crush on the character Harry Sorrentino! Cannot recommend highly enough. I hope Mary Kay Andrews writes a third book in this Savannah series."

This book focuses more on the 'steel magnolia' BeBe Loudermilk rather than on Weezie, as was the case in 'Savannah Blues'. Both characters are fascinating and the plot, though I must say highly improbable, was hugely entertaining. BeBe and Weezie are the perfect friends and I never get tired of reading about them. "I have never been to Savannah, Georgia but Mary Kay Andrew's latest novel, Savannah Breeze made me feel that I was also one of BeBe Loudermilk's best friends helping her get her money back from the con man going by the name of Reddy Millbanks. I loved the character of BeBe in Savannah Blues and was so happy to know that she was getting her own story. Andrews did not disappoint. The story begins with BeBe's ill-fated love affair with the younger and extremely good looking Reddy Millbanks. He introduces himself to BeBe at one of Savannah's social events of the season. Reddy uses the ruse that one of BeBe's ex-husbands sent him over to rescue her from a really bad suitor. Reddy uses his charm and business-savvy to ingratiate himself into BeBe's life right away. BeBe falls hook, line and sinker and begins to trust him with her heart and her business affairs. After a night spent with Reddy on his yacht she wakes up and sees that he is gone. She assumes that he is just going about his business and doesn't think must of it. BeBe goes to her restaurant and starts her day. She returns to Reddy's yacht and sees a for sale sign and someone else on the yacht. This is where everything starts to unravel and BeBe learns that Reddy is not a Millbanks but a can man. He has sold everything that she owns because he conned her into signing a power of attorney. BeBe hits rock bottom and learns that all she has left to her name is her car and a run down motel on Tybee Island outside of Savannah. She begs her friend Weezie for help. Together with help from Harry, the motel's handyman they turn the motel into a very cute inn that begins to turn a small profit. No one has forgotten that Reddy has gotten away with all of BeBe's money. She tracks him down to Florida and vows to get her money and possessions back with or without the law's help. With the help of her friend Weezie, Harry and her very colorful grandfather they come up with a pretty hilarious plot to turn the tables on this con man. If you want to hear more about the novel, buy the book and read it. You will enjoy the story of Bebe Loudermilk and her quirky cast of characters who embody the southern charm of Savannah, Georgia."
