“[Acevedo] manages to update vampire lore in clever and imaginative ways.” —El Paso Times
If you haven’t yet encountered Gulf War veteran-turned-vampire private eye Felix Gomez, then now is the time! Jailbait Zombie—the fourth in author Mario Acevedo’s outrageously original dark fantasy p.i. series—pits the undead against the living dead, as vampires meet zombies for a no-holds-barred beatdown. As dark, sexy, funny, and endearingly strange as Acevedo’s previous vampiric excursions—Nymphos of Rocky Flats, X-Rated Bloodsuckers, and Undead Kama Sutra—Jailhouse Zombie is more of the top-shelf bloody madness that inspired Tim “Nuclear Jellyfish” Dorsey to comment that Mario Acevedo “is a very disturbed man—and I mean that in the absolute finest sense of the term.”
There's undead and then there's . . . living dead!
Private Investigator Felix Gomez thought he had seen it all since becoming a vampire: horny aliens, maniacal nymphos. But now he's facing everyone's worst nightmare.
As far as being undead goes, vampires are indisputably the more civilized—intelligent, rational (on occasion), good conversationalists. Zombies, on the other hand, are just violent, walking, rotting, flesh-eating meat with no redeeming qualities. And now there's a ravenous army of them heading this way.
So it's vamps versus zombies, round one. And Felix's only hope of stopping the stinking, hungry horde is a pre-cocious and much-too-hot-for-her-britches teenager with clairvoyant powers. But she's not going to help unless Felix agrees to make her immortal.

Critical Praise for
Jailbait Zombie
Fans of splattery Hollywood-style horror will have fun with this tale of violence and mayhem.
Publishers Weekly
“Acevedo has proven once again that he is a very disturbed man—and I mean that in the absolute finest sense of the term.”
Tim Dorsey
“Raymond Chandler could never have imagined an L.A. like this, where hard-boiled, private-eye vampires fight crime, as well as commit a few during lunch breaks. …The mean streets have never been meaner—or stranger—and the result is a high-speed, well-crafted romp through the forests of the night. Fans of Acevedo’s The Nymphos of Rocky Flats (2006) will find this a worthy sequel.”
Booklist
“Decidedly good, unclean, unwholesome fun set in the thick of Denver’s mountainous spaces.”
Baltimore Sun
“Acevedo’s vampire comedy provides plenty of chuckles, particularly in its exciting final wrap-up, which leaves an opening for further Felix adventures.”
Booklist (starred review)
“My built-in garlic factor usually puts me off vampire books, but Mario Acevedo has come up with such a fascinating character—Iraq war veteran Felix Gomez, who is a private detective as well as a vampire—that I was won over. Gomez, who saw so much human blood in Iraq, finds other nutrients to keep him alive. And Acevedo, a former Desert Storm infantry officer and helicopter pilot, has shrewdly sucked up enough inside details to make the plot of his first novel (which includes outbreaks of nymphomania and murder at a secret government facility) a jaunty and even touching experience.”
Dick Adler, Chicago Tribune
“Hard-boiled action mixes with soft-core titillation in Acevedo’s second novel featuring solder-turned-vampire PI Felix Gomez.…The novel’s true appeal lies in its zippy banter and witty repartee on vampire lifestyle, particularly in Felix’s ongoing partnership with Coyote, a low-life vampire from the barrio. Acevedo has a natural flair for the hard-boiled idiom, and readers who enjoyed Felix’s first adventure will find this follow-up equally entertaining.”
Publishers Weekly
“The hero of this whodunit is an Iraqi Freedom soldier turned vampire turned gumshoe. The plot tests credulity here and there, but the snappy dialogue (pun intended), the pace and the porn stars (supernatural and otherwise) who populate the book more than compensate.”
Playboy
“The Nymphos of Rocky Flats is a witty, fast-paced, detective tale that also manages to update vampire lore in clever and imaginative ways.”
El Paso Times
“The Nymphos of Rocky Flats is a sassy, fast, fun read, and the mystery wraps up nicely.”
Boulder Daily Camera
“Warning: The author of this book must be a vampire, because he had me hypnotized from page one. I defy anyone to read the first chapter of Acevedo’s The Nymphos of Rocky Flats and not fall under its spell. Vampire P.I. Felix Gomez is irresistibly entertaining.”
Rick Riordan, Edgar Award winning author of Mission Road
“Witty, fast-paced . . . manages to update vampire lore in clever and imaginative ways.”
El Paso Times
“Deliciously unique. A smooth combination of Anne Rice and Michael Connelly, with a generous portion of Dave Barry. Loaded with thrills, sex, violence, and laughs, both mystery fanactics and horror lovers will find plenty to love with this page-turning debut. Acevedo is a writer to watch!”
JA Konrath, author of Bloody Mary
“My built-in garlic factor usually puts me off vampire books, but Mario Acevedo has come up with such a fascinating character—Iraq war veteran Felix Gomez, who is a private detective as well as a vampire—that I was won over.”
Dick Adler, Chicago Tribune
