HarperCollins Publishers acquires three new books from Dervla McTiernan

HarperCollins Publishers has signed up three new books from bestselling crime writer Dervla McTiernan, in a deal with Tara Wynne at Curtis Brown Australia. The first two books in McTiernan’s Galway-based DS Cormac Reilly series, The Rúin and The Scholar, are bestsellers in Australia and Ireland. The Rúin was recently shortlisted for General Fiction Book of the Year at the Australian Book Industry Awards and film rights have been optioned by Hopscotch. The third book in the DS Cormac Reilly series, The Good Turn, will be published in March 2020 and is told through the narratives of DS Cormac Reilly, Garda Peter Fisher and a young woman, Anna, whose daughter has stopped speaking due to an unknown trauma.

The first book in McTiernan’s new deal will be published in 2021 and will see DS Carrie O’Halloran take centre stage. Broadening the scope of the series to include characters old and new will allow McTiernan to approach crimes from fresh perspectives – and keep the readers guessing.

Publisher Anna Valdinger said: ‘I am hugely excited to have signed up more books from Dervla. She’s a tremendous talent and her novels are getting better and better – truly unputdownable, stay-up-all-night reads. I can’t wait to go back to Galway for more of Cormac, Carrie and the team.’

Dervla McTiernan said: ‘HarperCollins have championed me from the beginning. They are an exceptional team of thorough professionals who also just happen to be some of the nicest people I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. I feel very lucky to be published by them and I’m so over the moon happy that I get to keep telling the stories I love.’
