HarperCollinsChildren’sBooks Australia is thrilled to announce the launch of The Matilda Children’s Literature Prize – a new annual prize that seeks exemplary works of middle-grade or young adult fiction and non-fiction. We want to see Australia in all its many shapes and colours; we want to laugh at the exploits of your heroes, be amazed by fantastic facts, to fall in love with your characters and have our hearts broken by them.
We’re interested in hearing from you no matter how old you are. If you’ve got a tale, tall or true, in your head, on your laptop, stuffed in a bottom drawer, or maybe even in your swag, we want to read it. The Matilda Children’s Literature Prize welcomes manuscripts from Australian residents of all backgrounds and walks of life.
The Matilda Children’s Literature Prize offers the winner a publishing contract with HarperCollins Publishers Australia to publish the work as a commercial publication on reasonable commercial terms including advance against royalties of A$10,000.
Entrants must submit a completed manuscript of 20,000–100,000 words suitable for middle-grade (7–12 years) or young adult (12–18 years) readers. The work may be fiction or non-fiction in any genre. Picture books, works for adults, short story collections, poetry, plays and works for younger readers (under 7 years old) are not eligible. We want to see your best work, so entries are limited to up to TWO per person.
